Job Searching Tips

Ensure your resume is up to date and make sure to check it for grammar and spelling. It is usually the first impression an employer has of you, so it’s important that you do it well;

  • Look beyond newspapers. Try community bulletin boards, the local college, your place of worship;
  • Go on-line. There are hundreds of job opportunities listed on the Internet.  Here are some you can try:
  • Research companies you are interested in, even if they are not hiring. Send them your resume and let them know that you are looking;
  • Volunteer your time. If you find you lack the experience needed for the jobs you are looking for, learn new skills by volunteering;
  • Update your skills. Refresh your skills with a course at the Ontario Works training center.

MOST IMPORTANTLY – stay motivated. Looking for a job can take time and commitment. Seek support from your friends and family.
